I just wanna say the game does not feel the same as is used to, and if you're hearing how awesome this game really is, that means people were talking about it before the latest big update. It's like a couple of other reviewers with lots of hours have said, zombies are brain dead ( pun intended ) and just form single file lines, crafting has been locked down, you literally have to spend skill points in a skill to open up the rest of the visible space in your back pack now with I really, really didn't like. Guns aren't really much fun to find now because you can aim for buildings that are guaranteed to have guns in them. This is the same for gun safes from before as well and, etc. However, I felt like it was funner to let the rng roll and see what I got from gun safes after cracking them open. I actually had a strategy where I would max out scavenging and Quality joe, then go into town and hope to find super high level equipment at a low level lol. Point is, it's just not the same game at all. It just doesnt play the same way, and that for me, was too much. I'm just gonna keep playing Rust lol.. Long time player here. Purchased nearly a dozen copies of the game for numerous friends and family. A year or two ago I would have had great things to say about this game and the direction. Now, however, the story changes. It's the new alpha, alpha 17. They changed nearly every aspect of the game. That's okay, things change. The majority of the playerbase overwhelmingly complained on the forums. That's okay, customers complain. The problem is if you look at the forums right now. The main guy, Madmole, honestly admits that he doesn't play the game, but changes things he doesn't like about it. He admits in videos how much he's forgotten about the game even though he allegedly is the primary programmer. He then proceeds to have his forum moderators censor dissent and complaints hardcore and tells them that he doesn't care about their opinions. The game used to be great. The game is still "okay" even though so much has changed. Again, change is fine. But saying "I don't like aspect x, and even though I don't play the game, and eighty five percent of the comments on the forum approve of aspect x, I don't like it, or didn't when I played a year ago, so I'm taking it out" is not okay at all.. I tried to enjoy A17 the older leveling system was much more fun and played of how you liked to play but the new leveling system to me is just lazy throwing points into skills instead of earning them gradually its a step backwards not a step forwards, who every thought of a skill point for more inventory slots is just pure lazy. I cant recommend this game until they fix A17 and bring back the old leveling system which is my opinion was superior to this crap they have now.. I'm going to give you the best possible review I can so you know if this game is worth your money or not. The short answer, maybe. The long answer, below. In this review, I wall talk about my opinion, the pros and cons, and more.7 Days to die has always been a favorite of mine, mainly for the tower defense feel of the game. I play with friends which amps up the fun, and makes the game a little easier. Let's go over the aspects of the game together.GAMEPLAY - 7\/10In this game, you must loot, hunt, farm, and build to survive. The horde night is a thrill to fight through, and looting is a fun part too, but I recommend you increase the loot values in settings because the default value is so low that you find wood clubs in gun crates. Combat feels very unsatisfying. You can shoot at a deer 10 times straight down the sight of a gun and still end up missing. Zombies can stun you, and beat on you like a punching bag. Zombies are a lot scarier because they play dead before waking up and attacking you out of nowhere. Buildings are filled with around 10-30 zombies, making looting dangerous if not prepared. Overall, gameplay if very unique and has it's strengths and weaknesses. GRAPHICS - 5\/10Graphics are much better looking since to Alpha 17 update released. Textures are better than some AAA games like Fallout 4. Overall, the graphics are a mixed bag and are not ugly, but not pretty.AUDIO - 8\/10One of the strong points of this game would have to be the audio. From floors creaking to fat zombies gurgling, this game is pleasant with headphones. PERFORMANCE - 6\/10This game is badly optimized. Even with graphics at lowest settings, I still fall at 15FPS.DIFFICULTY: HARDThis game does not mess around Even on the easiest modes playing with four people, me and my friends still die constantly. Be careful when doing anything, even going to get water can be dangerous.PROS:- Fun for hours- The horde made me pee myself- Nicely crafted open world with secrets around every cornerCONS:Rarely updatedClunky combatRepetitive after awhileBadly optimizedOVERALL - 7\/10The rating would be much worse if I was talking about Alpha 15. If you like zombie games, sandbox games, or survival games, why not try them all in one package?. This game is really fun! I really enjoy being able to build pretty much whatever I want, with the added tension of regular zombie attacks and zombie waves. It's very addictive, especially when playing with a friend. Some things I wish I could modify in a playthrough is the zombie block damage and prefab spawns. I really like modifying or building off of a prefab home, but as of my last time playing there seems to be no way to prevent zombies spawning from within your base when you do that. I would also like to be able to select an option when creating a new game to severely nerf zombie block damage - I enjoy the challenge of making structurally sound buildings and the idea that just being inside a shack isn't going to save you, but seeing a horde of zombies chew through a concrete building in minutes kind of breaks immersion for me. I'd prefer for this to be selectable when creating a new game to maintain the original system for those who prefer it. It is, of course, possible to turn zombies off altogether, but I do enjoy the tension and challenge they bring to the game and would prefer to leave them on.I love the crafting system and leveling trees - skills all feel very relevant to your everyday problems and it rarely feels like a grind to level them up. Even basic resource gathering is made interesting as you watch the landscape around you change, keep an eye out for zombie ambushes, and manage your limited daylight hours.I've found combat really enjoyable, but am definitely more of a builder than an explorer and prefer to use the environment and my own buildings to give me an advantage during attacks. I also really love how dark it gets at night - you really do have to survive both against the zombies and against the environment in this game.Overall this has been a really enjoyable game. I'm looking forward to see what the developers do with it in the future! As a final note, I would really love to see more NPCs - perhaps a small community that is under threat of collapse, or other survivors that may be hostile or friendly. It would make the trader NPC seem a little less out of place.
